Description
SURGIFOAM® Absorbable Gelatin Sponge is a sterile, water-insoluble, malleable hemostatic sponge designed to assist in controlling capillary, venous, and arteriolar bleeding during surgical procedures. Made from porcine gelatin, this absorbable sponge provides a scaffold for platelet adhesion and aggregation, supporting effective hemostasis when conventional methods are insufficient or impractical. It can be used dry or saturated with sterile sodium chloride solution and may be combined with thrombin if additional hemostatic effect is desired.
Key Features:
- Sterile, ready-to-use out of the package
- Water-insoluble, malleable porcine gelatin sponge
- Absorbable over 4–6 weeks
- Dimensions: 2 cm x 6 cm x 7 mm
- Hemostatic agent suitable for continuous oozing
- Shelf life: 4 years
- Safe storage at 59–86ºF (15–30ºC)
Indications for Use:
SURGIFOAM® Sponge is indicated for surgical procedures (excluding ophthalmic surgery) to achieve hemostasis when control by pressure, ligature, or other conventional methods is ineffective or impractical. It is suitable for use on capillary, venous, and arteriolar bleeding and can be applied with or without thrombin to enhance clotting.
Mechanism of Action:
The gelatin matrix of SURGIFOAM® provides a physical scaffold that promotes platelet adhesion and aggregation, supporting the body’s natural clotting process and controlling localized bleeding effectively.
Why Choose SURGIFOAM® Absorbable Gelatin Sponge?
SURGIFOAM® offers reliable, absorbable hemostasis with a flexible, conformable design that adapts to surgical sites. Its predictable absorption, long shelf life, and compatibility with thrombin make it a trusted adjunctive tool for surgeons seeking effective bleeding control.
